Life in Rehab

People often ask me what Rehab was like. It was like nothing you could really describe, a holiday away from the real world.
I was on a private ward at the Priory in a beautiful building hidden away in a secluded part of Birmingham.
You start on 15 minute checks through the day and night moving to 1 hour after 7-10 days.
I met some amazing people on the addiction programme as well as the psychiatric programme, some of who are no longer with us.
I spent the first 10 days high on a detox drug called Chlordiazepoxide (Librium).
I had to go to the office four times a day for medication.
The programme is intense and cuts deep into the deepest feelings you’ve ever known.
The sessions included everything from group meetings, 1-2-1 CBT, art therapy, meditation, yoga to fitness classes and good night groups.
You get introduced to the 12-step programme and taken to local group meetings by staff such as NA and AA.
You get fridges full of chocolate for the sugar cravings and the best massage chair ever.
During your stay, if you head off for the afternoon with a trusted family member anywhere (once settled and trusted), you are drug and alcohol tested upon arrival back at the facility.
You have the best therapists and staff with a variety of expertise designed to help you get on the road to recovery.
I’ve been alcohol and drug free since 8am on the 29th of July 2019!
I had to graft hard and wanted to give up on numerous occasions. It was so difficult to be away from family, sober up and listen to home truths.
